How to Request Copies

COPIES/TRANSCRIPTS OF BANKRUPTCY CASE FILES

 

  • To obtain copies send a written request to the appropriate divisional office in which the case was filed (Roanoke,
    Lynchburg or Harrisonburg) with specifics as to what copies are needed (case number,
    debtor’s name, exact document to be copied).
  • If the information is not available through a PACER account, contact the appropriate divisional office to
    obtain the specifics needed for your copy request.
  • The $34.00 search fee (only applies to case files not available electronically) plus 50 cents per page copy fee and
    a postage paid return envelope must be received before copies are mailed.
    Payment may be made in the form
    of money order or cashier’s check, payable to U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Personal
    checks are not accepted. Cash
    payment in the exact amount is accepted in person at the Roanoke office only.
  • Copy requests for documents available on-line through CM/ECF are assessed the same copy fee quoted above.
  • Copies obtained from the Public Access computer in the lobby of the Clerk’s office are 10 cents per page.
  • Documents that are not available on-line and the case file has been shipped to the Federal Records Center
    must be retrieved. Contact th
    e appropriate divisional office in which the case was filed to obtain the
    retrieval form and required information.
  • Transcripts for hearings held before Judge Connelly prior to October 1, 2025, are obtained from the respective Court
    Reporter. Please email VAWBml_Connelly_Scheduling@vawb.uscourts.gov to obtain court reporter contact information.
    Please include
     case number, debtor’s name, and hearing date/time in your email.

    For all hearings conducted by Judge Black and for all hearings conducted by Judge Connelly after September 30, 2025,
    you may obtain an audio recording of the hearing(s) by sending a written request to the Clerk’s Office in Roanoke. 
    Please include case number, debtor’s name,hearing date/time, a blank CD, a self-addressed stamped return envelope,
    and payment of the $34 audio recording reproduction fee in the form of a money order, certified check, or cashier’s
    check (payable to “U.S. Bankruptcy Court”). Personal checks are not accepted. Cash payment in the exact amount is
    accepted in person at the Roanoke office only. Upon receipt of all items, a reproduction of the audio recording for the
    hearing will be returned to you, which you can provide to a transcription service of your choice.  Please listen to the
    recording before sending to the transcription service, since the audio recording may include hearings for more than one
    case.
