CM/ECF NextGen Information

As of March, 2020 the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia has migrated its Case Management/Electronic Case Filing System (CM/ECF) to the Next Generation of CM/ECF (NextGen).  NextGen allows filers to use Central Sign-on: the ability for e-filing attorneys to access any NextGen court they practice within using one login and password.

For NextGen login instructions, please follow the steps below.  Your PACER Account will be your login (entry point) for both PACER and CM/ECF; therefore, you MUST have your own Individual PACER Account.

Follow steps 1 through 4 below:

STEP ACTION
1

If you do not already have one, obtain your own individual PACER account.  If you already have your own PACER account, then go to Step 2.  Register for a new PACER account by clicking here: https://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov/pscof/regWizard.jsf

For instructions on how to register, click HERE.

NOTE: Shared PACER accounts cannot be used by filing attorneys once the court has upgraded.

2

If you already have your own individual PACER account and it was created prior to August 1, 2014, you must upgrade your account before you can electronically file in a NextGen court.  Upgrade your current PACER account by clicking here: https://www.pacer.gov/nextgen/

For instructions on how to upgrade your current PACER account, click HERE.

For more detailed instructions on the PACER upgrade process please refer to the learning module below (a PDF copy has been included for your convenience).

3

Note your current CM/ECF login and password.  This is the login and password you are currently using to log in the CM/ECF.  If you do not know your password, please contact our Help Desk at cmhelpdesk@vawb.uscourts.gov. Include your full name, CM/ECF user name and primary CM/ECF email address in your correspondence. Or call (540) 857-2391.

4

For instructions on how to link your accounts, click HERE.

NOTE:  You will NOT be able to file in NextGen until your CM/ECF account is linked to your upgraded, individual PACER account.

CENTRAL BILLING

Firms may set up a PACER Administrative Account (PAA) to help manage user accounts and have those individual accounts centrally billed for PACER access fees.
